SleepWM

Sleep

SleepWM is the WLMs model for sleep: how a night moves through wake, light, deep and REM sleep, and what the body does meanwhile. Its description, results and release details will be added here. Until then, this page shows what the signal looks like.

One night, 23:00 to 07:00
–Time in bed
–Total sleep time
–Sleep efficiency: asleep as a share of time in bed
–Time taken to fall asleep
Illustrative synthetic hypnogram, generated in your browser. It is not patient data and not the output of SleepWM. Stages follow the usual scoring: wake, REM, and non-REM stages N1 to N3.

The signal

How the night divides between stages Illustrative

Sleep runs in cycles of roughly 90 minutes. Deep sleep (N3) is concentrated in the first cycles and REM sleep in the last ones, so the mix of stages says a lot about a night.

Minutes and share of the eight hours in bed for the synthetic night shown above.

    Overnight physiology

The body follows the stages Illustrative

Heart rate falls as sleep deepens and becomes faster and less regular in REM sleep and around awakenings. Blood oxygen saturation stays in a narrow band, with small dips. The strip on top repeats the stages for the same night.
